Draft an invoice for a client
Review eligible charges and prepare one invoice without billing the same work twice.
On this page
Open the invoice composer
- Open Financials → Draft invoice or New → Invoice.
Check the Client and billing terms at the top.
- Review What are you billing?
Retainer charges and unbilled overage may be selected. Inspect every selected line and the agreement behind it.
- Read blocked lines.
Submitted time needs approval, unsigned changes need acceptance and unreached milestones need the delivery decision first. Use the source link to resolve the reason.
- Check title, issue date, terms and preview.
Review the total and due date, then use Save draft when the contents are right.

Check existing drafts and agreed charges
Open a draft already listed in Financials before preparing another. Untick a charge when the team must first agree an overage or a larger retainer with the client. An eligible amount is not permission to bill something outside the agreement.
Keep preparation and delivery separate
A saved draft belongs to Finance and is shown in the account’s invoices. Review the final invoice and intended recipient before sending. Use a reminder for an unpaid invoice rather than drafting the same charge again.
When a line is unavailable
Read its reason, inspect approvals or the project, and correct the source record. Do not add a manual line merely to bypass an approval or double-billing restriction. Check the account, invoice state and original charge if a total is unexpected.
